For the past few years, Giving Children Hope has tasted the world’s best pecan pie tarts, homemade jam, and espresso brownies, all thanks to Barb Sheridan. Barb first started as a volunteer in late 2014, shortly after retiring from Boeing. She walked in, not knowing anyone, just knowing that she wanted to spend the next few years serving the community. Since then, she has become more than a volunteer – she has become family. From making sure that every hole in each backpack was patched, to often going out of her way to wash backpacks at the local laundromat, and to leading a countless number of corporate volunteer groups when staff wasn’t around, Barb has worked tirelessly to ensure that all our students received their backpacks of food for the week.
Today was a sad day, as it was Barb’s last day at Giving Children Hope. At her farewell party lunch, the Mayor of Buena Park, Virginia Vaughn, honored Barb for her dedicated service to the community. Staff and volunteers showered her with words of gratitude and encouragement, a clear testament to the impact of Barb’s time here at Giving Children Hope, and specifically to our We’ve Got Your Back program.
We love all of our volunteers, but every once in a while, we’re blessed with a volunteer who goes above and beyond. Today, we honor Barb. To date, Barb Sheridan has contributed 2,145 hours to Giving Children Hope and has impacted thousands of lives. We’ll miss you, Barb!
