Every time we hear that US Bank will be coming to volunteer, the warehouse buzzes with excitement. For the past few years, US Bank employees have partnered with us to serve our community in various ways, both through their financial support and their time & expertise. This time around, they reserved two full days to come in and lend a hand in our We’ve Got Your Back and Global Operations programs. By Friday afternoon, they had packed 450 backpacks, sorted through 3,500 pounds of food, packed 200 produce bags, bagged 200 pounds of rice & beans, assisted 70 WGYB families with our Client Choice Distribution, sorted & boxed 6 pallets of clothing for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, sorted 4 pallets of medical supplies, and helped load our container to Lebanon. Through their hard work, over 10,000 vulnerable individuals both across the street and around the world will have the necessary resources to make their lives a bit easier.
As if having US Bank in to volunteer wasn’t enough excitement for one day, something else happened that day that really rallied our excitement. One year ago, US Bank kindly provided Giving Children Hope a grant to begin a financial literacy program for the parents in WGYB. Our dream is that the parents Giving Children Hope serve might one day gain self-sufficiency. We dream of the day they turn the key to their new apartment. One of the major obstacles preventing them from attaining this dream is a lack of basic financial principles. We are so proud to announce that on the very same day US Bank came in to volunteer last week, a nearby room was filled with parents sitting through our first financial literacy course. Thank you US Bank for demonstrating what it looks like to offer your time, treasure, and talent to build a stronger community!
