Volunteer Highlight

IMG_3791As a former Board Member and current volunteer, Megan Richardson describes herself as “a simple girl who loves the Lord, loves people and loves being able to do whatever she can to encourage others.” To us, she is all that and more. Megan first heard about us back in 2011 and knew she had to take action. In a matter of a few years, she transitioned from an individual donor to a corporate partner on behalf of Los Cerritos Center to a Board Member.

Megan’s favorite part about volunteering at Giving Children Hope is that she doesn’t get paid. She loves being able to serve without expecting anything in return. And she encourages those who are thinking about volunteering at Giving Children Hope to just “do it. You will never be sorry. No matter what area you serve in, even if it seems like a menial or small task, it will ultimately bless someone in need whether across the street or around the world. There is nothing more powerful than being able to give someone hope.”

A Surprise Blessing

Those that sponsor a wish list through Giving Children Hope are asked to spend up to $25 on each child, but there are a few donors that go far beyond to make a child feel special. Thanks to a few kind donors, on Christmas Eve, we delivered three very surprised children a beautiful new bike for Christmas.
Upon arriving at one of the homes, the boy receiving the bike wasn’t there. Because her son wasn’t there, the mother felt comfortable enough to share what this bike means to her. She bravely told us she worked three jobs this year to make ends meet for her kids. She said she could never afford to do something like this for her son, and hugged and thanked us with tears in her eyes. I’m so grateful her son wasn’t there at that moment because this incredible mom got to watch her son wake up on Christmas and look to her as the hero she truly is. That’s a memory and a feeling that we at Giving Children Hope want for every family we serve. Though they are living through difficult situations, their dignity and their souls matter. Thank you for helping us love them.

Syrian Refugee Update

ffffWeeks ago Giving Children Hope sent our 24th shipping container for Syrian refugee relief in the Middle East. The tarps sent in the last container have been extremely useful for the families. Ours have been able to waterproof their tents when it’s raining and when the sun is shining they flip them to the darker side to absorb warmth. Our partner let us know that a local church in Beirut, Lebanon has opened a school for refugee children in the area. The parents are grateful for the opportunity for their children to learn again.

Giving Children Hope will be sending a team to Lebanon in May to distribute supplies and check on current projects. Stay tuned!
