Every Friday at 2:10pm, 24 Orangethorpe Elementary students are greeted with a warm smile as they pick up their backpacks from Miss Cassie. Four years ago, Cassie decided to dedicate a few hours a week to serve alongside her church, Wilshire Avenue. When Wilshire Avenue adopted Orangethorpe Elementary, Cassie volunteered to start delivering backpacks to the students. Within a year, the students became more than just backpack numbers – now, Cassie knows the students by their first names and has a personal relationship with each one. She knows that no matter what she does with Giving Children Hope, it will make a positive impact on someone’s life. In Cassie’s eyes, “seeing the impact firsthand, when you get that smile when someone realizes that someone cares about them – indescribable.”
Cassie grew up in Barstow, CA with four brothers, which has shaped her to be the competitive, adventurous woman that she is. She has been living in Fullerton for the last twenty years with her husband, Chris, and is a mother of two wonderful daughters and a dog named Regan. Cassie works for the Fullerton School District as a playground supervisor and loves serving her community in her spare time. She uses the Bible as her motivation to serve and believes that it is something we are all called to do: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others…” Matthew 20:28. To the people around her, Cassie is known to be strong, passionate, and giving. Over the past four years, we’ve learned that she encompasses that and so much more – her compassion, kindness, persistence, and sincerity never fail to amaze us. Thank you, Cassie!
