Frequently Asked Questions

What is the age limit for volunteers?

All ages are welcome! If they are under the age of 16, we ask that there be an adult present to supervise.

Do you give tours?

Sure we do. Call our office and schedule a time to come and take a look at our facility. You could bring a group to volunteer at the same time and have lunch here.

How is Giving Children Hope different from other international relief and development organizations?

One of our core values is listening. As a listening organization, we work with partners in developing countries and listen to their needs instead of imposing our own ideas or strategies on the community. It is the community that decides what they need and which projects are prioritized. Instead of being community based, we are community initiated. A project has the greatest chance for success when the community has true ownership and input into the development.

Can I make a donation in memory of someone?

Absolutely! Please provide a contact name and address to have a notification sent for the donation. We will not include the amount given, but we will let them know that you made a gift in their honor.

How can I pray for Giving Children Hope?

Please send an email to [email protected] and ask to be added to our prayer group list. We send out a quarterly email with our prayer needs and we GREATLY appreciate your prayer support.

Do I need to schedule a time to come in?

To begin volunteering we ask that you attend one of our volunteer orientations every other Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. After attending, you can schedule to come in anytime you want Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To attend one of our orientations see our Volunteer Calendar.

I'm not available during your normal hours. Are there other ways I can help?

We do have after hour events on an as-needed basis, like our disaster response packing events that we schedule after a natural disaster or our wrapping parties for our toy drive in December. The best way to hear about these needs is to join our Newsletter. In addition, you can host a food drive or serve as a volunteer ambassador. For more information on these opportunities, check out our Volunteer page.

Can I donate my stuff?

Yes, we accept all gently used items including: housewares, furniture, and clothing. Please drop it off at our warehouse: 8332 Commonwealth Ave., Buena Park, CA 90621.

Where do you send supplies?

Giving Children Hope sends supplies all over the world. We partner with other nonprofits, orphanages, and clinics that know the community’s needs where they are stationed. In order to support the incredible work those nonprofits are doing, we send supplies to further their goals of loving and supporting the poor. Giving Children Hope has sent supplies to over 71 countries worldwide.

Hello, I’m interested in volunteering in the “We’ve Got Your Back” program with my 12-year-old son. He doesn’t get home from school until 4:00 every day, but he will be off for one week during his Spring break (3/28-4/1). Will it be possible for us to volunteer for 3 or 4 days during that week? Also, would you be able to sign a school form or provide your own form verifying my son’s volunteer hours?

Hello Joyce, Thank you for asking. Yes, you would be able to volunteer multiple times during that week. We would be glad to have you. You would just need to attend a volunteer orientation before. Our volunteer orientations are every other Wednesdays at 3:30. The next one is on March 2nd. If that’s not a possibility, then we can setup an individual orientation with our volunteer coordinator, SueLynn at [email protected]. She can answer any other questions that might come up as well. Thank you for your passion to serve! _Carly
