February’s Volunteer of the Month

It’s not often that you see a retired cake decorator sorting medical supplies for an international project. Fortunately for Giving Children Hope, we get to experience it every week through Sandy! Born and raised in Fullerton, Sandy graduated from Buena Park High School. In 1980, she became a single mom. Despite all the difficulty that came with her new life, God provided for Sandy to the penny. God opened the door to cake decorating, enabling her to work in various bakeries & stores, including Cake Master, Villa Bakery, and Stater Brothers. She was able to purchase the perfect house with just a part-time job, and she still lives there to this day. Though this point in her life was not the easiest, it was a living testament to how faithful God is. And since then, Sandy has resolved to give back.

Sandy first came to Giving Children Hope two years ago with her friend Ann, one of our Volunteer Leaders. Recently retired, Sandy started volunteering in our Global Operations program. She fell in love with the program, saying, “On one end, I’m just sorting through medical supplies. But on the other end, these supplies can save lives. Just knowing that I am a small part of that is most rewarding.” Sandy’s support has helped us send 22 medical containers to 12 countries in the past year alone.

Aside from volunteering at Giving Children Hope, Sandy loves playing trivia games and solving crosswords. Her favorite quote comes from James 2: “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:17. This quote reminds her every day to be a doer of the Word, not just a hearer. Thank you, Sandy, for volunteering your time out of love & compassion for the world. We are grateful to have someone like you walking alongside us as we serve vulnerable children and families.
