Clothing Distribution to Syrian Refugees

International Relief & Development (IRD) opened Za’tari, a refugee camp in Jordan, to assist Syrian refugees with security and shelter. IRD has been in Jordan since March and they will be running the program until the end of December this year. The program is being funded through UNHCR.

IRD has contacted us to send a container of new winter clothing. The container is expected to arrive in December to provide warmth during the winter months. Despite the hardship the Syrian refugees are facing, we are hoping the clothing will bring smiles to many children and families.

Click below for the story on their clothing distribution during Eid, a day that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.

Update 2/26/15 GCHope is still accepting new clothing for Syrian refugees. Please drop off at our Buena Park, California facility. If you are not near our California location we cannot reimburse for shipping.

My son has collected boxes and boxes of gently worn shoes, clothing and blankets. How do we get them to the refugee camps?

    • dbryson July 5, 2013 Reply

Hi SK, You would need to get them to our warehouse in Buena Park where all our distributions originate from.

If we send clothing, will you ship it onward, or was this a one-time thing?

Hello. We’re in the Midwest, but can ship our gently used clothes, shoes, winter gear to you for the Syrian refugees. Will this be accepted if we send our items to you? Thank you.

    • Carly Visbal April 16, 2015 Reply

Thank you so much for searching for ways to help serve Syrian refugees. Unfortunately, we only are able to send brand new items to because of certain legalities, so we can’t accept your kind offer. The best way to support the refugees we are serving is by donating online here- or if you have any contacts that are able to get bulk quantities of new clothing we always are in need. Thank you for your passion to help!

Hello, Thank you for taking action to serve refugees in need. We do accept used clothing and shoes however because of certain customs requirements Giving Children Hope can’t send used items to Syrian refugees. We do have an upcoming project for Iraqi refugees that we are able to take used clothing for if you would like to send it for them. Items can be sent to Giving Children Hope at 8332 Commonwealth Ave. Buena Park, CA 90621. Thank you for serving with us.

    Yes Erin,

We will always accept donations. However for Syrian refugees we specifically need “new” items because of customs regulations. You are more than welcome to still send them but unless they are in very good condition we might not be able to use them. Thank you for considering us!

I have some items that still have the tags on them, and some that are not brand new but are in very good condition. Can both be sent to the refugees? And if not, would I need to ship the new items seperately? Or could they be sorted out if sent all together?

Hi I have so many good clothes to donate to Syrian refugees. However I do not live in California, I was wondering if I’d be able to send the parcel to Buena Park California and then it being sent to the refugees?

I have a bunch of used clothes for the Syrian refugee, especially kids. Where I should send it? I been reading the post about no used clothes to Syria but it has to be a way!
