Aid Africa Volunteer Event

A group of passionate volunteers gathered at Giving Children Hope excited to partner with Aid Africa, a nonprofit organization rebuilding sustainable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The group assembled birthing kits for pregnant women in rural areas. Giving Children Hope is proud to host this 4th annual volunteer event with Aid Africa.

The birthing kits included much needed supplies such as baby caps, alcohol prep pads, soap, a sheet, gauze, gloves, and a pictograph instruction sheet.  The birthing kits will be used to assist midwives by providing sterile items to reduce the risk of infection during birth. Infection following delivery is the leading cause of death among mothers and newborns living in rural communities worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, more than three million babies die every year in their first month of life due to infection and complications from birth. It only took about 2 1/2 hours for the volunteers to assemble 500 birthing kits. These kits will potentially save 1,000 lives as each kit protects not only baby, but also the mother from deadly infection. The kits will be distributed to those in need through Giving Children Hope’s network of partners who work in hospitals and clinics around the world.
