18,000 Pounds of Food to Stamp Out Hunger!!

Saturday, May 13, was the 25th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, hosted by the United States Postal Service. Every year on the 2nd Saturday in May, city residents leave a bag of non-perishable foods on their doorstep and USPS postal carriers collect the food and take it back to their post office. Each post office selects an organization to receive the food, and for the past 3 years, Giving Children Hope has been the recipient of the Buena Park Post Office’s collected food. This past Saturday, part of the Giving Children Hope team was at the Buena Park Post Office to unload the postal carriers’ trucks full of food, sort the food, and served lunch to the postal carriers at the end of the day. After many sore muscles, a few sun burns, and dedicated postal carriers, the Buena Park Post Office employees and local residents collected over 18,000 pounds of food and the Giving Children Hope truck was filled to the brim!!

The collected food will benefit our We’ve Got Your Back program, a weekend nutrition program that distributes backpacks full of food to vulnerable families in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Each week, we distribute approximately 1,100 backpacks to families in need, which equals about 13 tons of food. Thank you Buena Park Post Office – we are so so grateful for your support these past 3 years, and we look forward to the many years ahead!
