These two lovely ladies are from just one of the families that stopped by to pick up food from GCHope today. Maria and Diana were all smiles as they received fresh produce and bread as part of We’ve Got Your Back’s summer distribution. Eleven-year-old Diana heard about WGYB from a friend three years ago, signed up that day in her school office, and the family have been receiving food from the program ever since.
Diana says that she and her classmates get excited when the backpacks are delivered to her elementary school every week. “We always open them really fast to see what good stuff is inside,” she says. Her favorite snack to find is Ritz crackers, but her mom, Maria, favors the produce, especially oranges and cucumbers. “My dad stopped working, so the fruits and vegetables helped my mom a lot,” says Diana.
This week, families received melons, peppers, and more, most of which was picked from a local farm by our team of volunteers. Want to help families like them? Join us this Saturday morning at the Great Park in Irvine and pick some produce! Contact Paul at email@example.com if you’re interested.
