Chairman of the Board
Rob Burns joined the Giving Children Hope Board of Directors in 2007. He is proud of the time he spends with Teri, his wife of 26 years, their four children, his financial services practice with Thrivent Financial, Habitat for Humanity, and Giving Children Hope.
Rob received his business degree from California State University, Fullerton, and has several designations including Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFc®). He feels it is an honor and privilege to be associated with the outstanding Giving Children Hope staff and volunteers who dedicate their time to assist thousands locally and across the world.
Sandra and her family have been volunteering at Giving Children Hope for several years. She has over 30 years experience in the financial industry and is currently the Assistant Vice President in the Retail Branches at US Bank. She oversees the Employee Development Network for U.S. Bank in La Habra, CA. Sandra and her husband, Michael have been married for 30 years.
Kathy Ramos joined the Giving Children Hope Board of Directors in 2008. She is currently a contract employed therapist for Orange County Adoptions and has a private practice as a licensed Marriage Family Therapist, serving the community, schools, and Medi-Cal patients in Diamond Bar, CA.
Kathy lives in Placentia and has two grown daughters. Her oldest daughter is a Masters degree level teacher for the Anaheim School District and her youngest daughter is in the Golden Key National Honor Society.
For the past 13 years, Kwame has been an executive vice president for PIMCO’s Global Wealth Management group in Newport Beach. PIMCO is a valuable partner to Giving Children Hope. Before joining the PIMCO team, he was with Wells Fargo Bank’s commercial lending group. Kwame has his MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California.
“As someone who grow up poor in Africa, I have a deep understanding of the difference a helping hand can make in the lives of poor families, especially in times of crisis,” Kwame remarked. “There is no better way to demonstrate the love of Christ than to actively contribute to an organization such as Giving Children Hope.”
Bill worked at Giving Children Hope as a consultant to the CEO in the areas of operations, container shipping, partner relations, and the capital campaign initiative. He is from Ohio originally and went on to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he was elected Class Treasurer and MVP of the Army football team. He retired as an Army Lt. Col. with combat experience in Vietnam, and duty in Korea, France, and Germany. He ended his career in the Pentagon as a Plans Director in the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army where he received the Legion of Merit award. He obtained his Master’s in Systems Management at USC and after retirement worked in the President’s Office at World Vision International as the Senior Executive Assistant before taking a job as VP Operations at International Aid Inc., a large relief ministry in Michigan.
Dave Stuart first found his passion for nonprofit organizations while working at Russ Reid, a marketing agency, where he helped deserving organizations raise funds for their programs. Currently, Dave is the Chief Sales Officer at Mentoring Minds. Dave has 28 years of marketing and sales experience that he graciously offers to Giving Children Hope.
“Giving Children Hope is making a substantial impact in lives across the street and around the world,” Dave continued. “There aren’t many nonprofits I have worked with the size of Giving Children Hope that make the same impact with such limited resources. I have spent my career helping companies and organizations grow and I want to do the same thing for Giving Children Hope.”
Former Virginia Squires center, Rick Darnell is a true sports enthusiast. He has worked with numerous athletic-related organizations. He is the president of the NBA Retired Players Association’s Los Angeles chapter, and has been involved with Athletes Against Autism, United Martial Arts for Christ, and LA Legends of Basketball, to name a few. He is the founder and president of Athletes ‘n Education. Rick attended San Jose State University, Indiana State University and Cypress College.
Robert has extensive experience with charities, having worked as a coach for non-profits through the organization EC of OC. He is the retired president of North Star Co., Inc., and has been involved in the Lutheran church on many levels, including serving as a member of the district’s board of directors, president of his district’s youth organization, and as member of the Lutheran Hospital Society Board.
Jeff White joined Giving Children Hope’s Board in 2008. He is currently the Vice President and National Accounts Manager at Franklin Bank SSB. He is also the owner and award-winning wine maker of Ovene Winery, Inc.
Jeff has his MBA in Management from Pepperdine University and his BS in Business Marketing from San Diego State University.
Jeff has been an active member of Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club for 19 years. Other volunteer committees he is involved with include the Elks Club, Yorba Linda Friends Church, Stephens Ministry and Door of Faith Orphanage.
Dr. Gardner graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Biology in 1975 and obtained an MD degree from Washington University School of Medicine in 1980. He practiced as an orthopedic spine surgeon in Orange County for 18 years, changing to full-time clinical research in 2006. He is currently the Medical Director of the Orthopedic Education and Research Institute of Southern California. Vance has been married to Carol (also a physician) since 1976. They have four grown children and live in Irvine, California.
Virginia has lent her skills to Giving Children Hope as a valued Board Member since 2009. As a Buena Park City Council Member, Virginia is truly dedicated to making this community a better place. Virginia brings 30 years of experience to our organization, working at Northrup Grumman Corporation as a Facilities Manager and Material Accounting. She also volunteers her time as a Board Member for the Buena Park Boys & Girls Club. Virginia and her husband of 21 years, Kenny, live in Buena Park.
James Wilcox has been the President of Raymond Handling Solutions for seven years. He brings valuable warehouse management, marketing, and community relations experience to Giving Children Hope’s Board of Directors. James earned his degree in History and Political Science from Texas State University and is involved with the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Kim, reside in the city of Orange.
As the Vice President of Product Development at Nutrilite, a long-time partner of Giving Children Hope, Audra brings valuable nutrition and management experience to Giving Children Hope’s Board of Directors. With an educational and professional background in nutrition, Audra was particularly drawn to our We’ve Got Your Back program. “I am inspired by areas of focus that are removing nutrition as a barrier for communities to flourish, and Giving Children Hope is doing just that,” Audra shared. Audra and her husband, Mark, reside in Long Beach.
