Mission

Giving Children Hope is a faith-based partner providing sustainable hope through wellness programs and disaster response in collaboration with local and global communities. We do this through the gathering and giving of: Basic NeedsNutritional Foods and Medical Resources.

Our Founding Story

Giving Children Hope was founded in 1993 by John Ditty and Juliana Reasor, who committed their lives to helping the world’s most disadvantaged children after being exposed to extreme poverty while adopting their son in Russia. At that time Russia was experiencing a devastating famine and many people were struggling to survive. In addition to the famine, these people were lacking basic medical necessities to treat minor injuries or illnesses that might only need a simple medicine to cure. John and Juliana were touched by the great needs of these children and began helping by delivering donated medicines, medical supplies and equipment to some of the most economically impacted parts of the world. Today, 24 years later, thanks to our family of donors, Giving Children Hope is still sending supplies to some of the worlds most poverty-stricken nations and will continue to do so.

However, with a closer look at children living in low-income communities in the United States, it became obvious that serving families was a necessary part of serving children. Giving Children Hope’s vision grew to include local families and now provides them with immediate assistance in basic needs and health care.

FAQ’S

What is the age limit for volunteers?

All ages are welcome! If they are under the age of 16, we ask that there be an adult present to supervise.

Do you give tours?

Sure we do. Call our office and schedule a time to come and take a look at our facility. You could bring a group to volunteer at the same time and have lunch here.

How is Giving Children Hope different from other international relief and development organizations?

One of our core values is listening. As a listening organization, we work with partners in developing countries and listen to their needs instead of imposing our own ideas or strategies on the community. It is the community that decides what they need and which projects are prioritized. Instead of being community-based, we are community initiated. A project has the greatest chance of success when the community has true ownership and input into the development.

Can I make a donation in memory of someone?

Absolutely! Please provide a contact name and address to have a notification sent for the donation. We will not include the amount given, but we will let them know that you made a gift in their honor.

How can I pray for Giving Children Hope?

Please send an email to [email protected] and ask to be added to our prayer group list. We send out a quarterly email with our prayer needs and we GREATLY appreciate your prayer support.

Do I need to schedule a time to come in?

To begin volunteering we ask that you attend one of our volunteer orientations every other Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. After attending, you can schedule to come in anytime you want Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To attend one of our orientations see our Volunteer Calendar.

I'm not available during your normal hours. Are there other ways I can help?

We do have after hour events on an as-needed basis, like our disaster response packing events that we schedule after a natural disaster or our wrapping parties for our toy drive in December. The best way to hear about these needs is to join our Newsletter. In addition, you can host a food drive or serve as a volunteer ambassador. For more information on these opportunities, check out our Volunteer page.

Can I donate my stuff?

On-site, we have an American Textile Recycling Service bin that you are more than welcome to donate your gently used clothing or shoes to.

Where do you send supplies?

Giving Children Hope sends supplies all over the world. We partner with other nonprofits, orphanages, and clinics that know the community’s needs where they are stationed. In order to support the incredible work those nonprofits are doing, we send supplies to further their goals of loving and supporting the poor. Giving Children Hope has sent supplies to over 77 countries worldwide.
